Growth

The walls around me crack revealing my newfound solitude.

Abandoned at the nest or an aptitude test, I was divided. First, I taught myself to
walk; or so I thought. First, I fell, I was very scared but the rush of air some how made me excited.

Eventually, I landed. I learned to crawl from worms in the dirt that left me partially blinded. From the same dirt, creatures grew legs.

Crickets taught me to jump. Somehow, a familiar feeling but for a fleeting moment that made my heart pump.

Now thirsty, I jumped to the river where I tracked the movement of fish. They taught me to swim and left me famished, but I realized water wasn't the space I was meant to thrive in.

In more ways than one, I was drowning.
I had more parts than the worm, my legs weren't crooked or springy, and there was something wrong with my fins.

That's when I looked up and saw... things. I eventually learned my fins were called wings and the ones up there were birds, my kin.

So I crawled across the earth, jumped over debris, and swam to a point where I could,

FLY.

And found that the sky is where I'm alive.

Now free, I live with the everlasting memory of those below,

that
raised me.
